Festive fun at the Christmas markets

Well, I think the picture says it all ! We had a lovely time wandering about the Christmas markets this weekend, picking up a few gifts but mainly just soaking up the festive atmosphere.

It wasn't all Christmassy though - the first thing that impressed the girls was this model of the Eiffel Tower. Very nice but I'm not sure I'd want it in my living room, thank you !

A little further, we discovered some incredibly cute donkeys, including this white one.

Juliette had just been saying a couple of days before that she would love to have a ride on a donkey - how's that for a lucky coincidence?!

We followed her as she went clip clopping around the wooden chalet-style stalls (but the man leading her donkey looked like he was in need of a little Christmas cheer, despite his Santa hat !).

Pierre was very happy to discover a "baby Christmas tree" that was just the right size for him. The "tinsel" made out of polystyrene packaging gave me a great idea for recycling.

I had a bit of a culinary discovery too. We often eat chicory, or endives as they're called here, at The Madhouse. I've shared my recipe for Cheesy Chicory Bake and Applewood-filled Endive Boats with you in the past. But I always presumed they grew above the ground like lettuce. I discovered this weekend that they are attached to roots that look like parsnips !

It was starting to get decidedly chilly so a Nutella-filled panini was the perfect hand warmer (and stomach filler !).

Moving inside, we bumped into the man in red (whose beard seemed to have a life of its own !).

One Direction-fan Sophie bought a bottle of coke and was delighted to get a Louis one which she now wants to add to the 1D decor in her bedroom !

We also bumped into Mickey and Minnie.

And Mario coming off the big wheel !

A very cute reindeer.

And Santa Bear.

Pierre's face says it all - a great time was had by all !

I also had great fun testing out my new pedometer - I can tell you that we walked  8636 steps, 4.3km and burned 225 calories !
